Second Century Endowment
The Friends of Washoe County Library established the Second Century Endowment in 2005. The purpose of the Endowment is to ensure that there will be adequate additional funding to the Washoe County Library to support materials and programming budgets, as well to provide equipment not funded in the Library's budget.
Given the dire financial problems facing the County, the role of the Friends Endowment is now a vital one. At present the Endowment stands at about $550,000, carefully invested, but not in the stock market, so we are in good financial shape.
As the Friends of Washoe County Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Nevada, gifts to the Endowment are tax deductible. We have been fortunate in being the recipient of several estate bequests, as well as many individual contributions.
It is the hope of the Friends that Library supporters will recognize the importance of the Endowment, and include the Endowment in their charitable giving. It is so easy to do—a monthly gift of as little as $10.00 continues to grow over a period of time, and becomes a gift that keeps on giving. The Endowment can be the recipient of an outright donation, or it can be included in estate planning or an insurance policy.
This year, the Endowment was able to contribute additional funds to those raised by the Friends through the Secondhand Prose Bookstore and booksales. The Friends were able to provide $105,000 to the Library for needs that were not funded by the County.
Your support of the Endowment means that the Washoe County Library will be able to maintain high quality service to the citizens of Washoe County. A monthly gift of as little as $10 or more becomes a legacy.
